The early concept sketches for this design. The shoes were supposed to have a sleeker look to them, but I decided to thicken them up in order to exaggerate the sk8 aesthetic. :P (maybe ill go back and fix them to make them more sleek like the og concept…)

Calling this shoe the ‘Heist’ is actually a subtle jab at high fashion taking inspiration from the late 90s skateboarding. One of the main features of the shoe: the reflective wavy TPR panel spanning across the upper, is actually an inconspicuous reference to one of the most iconic footwear designs to ever come out of skateboarding, The Emerica Marc Johnson pro from 1998. The ‘MJ’ as it is dubbed by fans, is a cult classic which many would consider one of the best footwear designs of all time. The most recognizable element of the shoe is the giant ‘M’ on the side, standing for Marc. Here I took that similar ‘M’ language and spun it to stand for ‘Malletier’, paying homage to the origins of the LV brand.
